Language Classes for Summer, 2009
COURSES: Beginning Conversational Puget Salish 1, Beginning Conversational Puget Salish 2, Intermediate Conversational Puget Salish, Advanced Conversational Puget Salish 1, Advanced Conversational Puget Salish 2
Zalmai Zahir is offering Puget Salish (Lushootseed) language classes. The courses will include the Internet, and the use of interactive CD-ROMs. The courses are intended for students 12 years of age and older.
Due to low attendance, classes will no longer be offered. Those that want to meet with Zalmai Zahir can schedule office time for tutoring. Office hours are very flexible. Students can schedule office time as groups or as individuals.
The CD-ROM courses will begin June, Monday 22, 2009.

TUITION and MATERIALS: Tuition is due on or before the first day of class and includes the price for the use of the interactive CD-ROMs for a three (3) month period. The CD-ROMs are supported by WINDOWS BASED PLATFORMS ONLY.
Tuition is nonrefundable.

For those receiving college credit, all course work shall be done by Wednesday, August 28th.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
The cost for CD-ROMs are included in the tuition. Each student will receive a key code that will allow you to use the software for a period of three (3) months, upon which time the key code will expire and the software will no longer function. Students that take subsequent classes will receive another key code that will allow previous and current course CD-ROMs to work for another three (3) months.

This is an introductory course to Puget Salish. Students will learn the Puget Salish alphabet, sounds, vocabulary and sentences. They will learn how to read, write and speak on a beginning level.
Vocabulary and content include song & dance; words for the home; numbers; animal names; greeting and departure; and introducing self. |

Beginning
Conversational Puget Salish 2
CD-ROM Levels 8 – 14

This is a second level of beginning Puget Salish. While reinforcing previously learned vocabulary, students will learn more complex sentence structures.
Vocabulary and content include song & dance; creating a song; clothing; verb sentence syntax; cooking; canoes; math; how old are you; days of the week; telling time; and counting people. |

Intermediate
Conversational Puget Salish
CD-ROM Levels 15 – 21 |
This course will expand the student’s speaking abilities. They will continue to learn more complex sentence structures, while increasing their vocabulary.
Vocabulary and content include song & dance; months of the year; invitations; more on canoes; traditional teachings; adjectives, adverbs; reflexives; and patient oriented suffix structure. |

Advanced 1
Conversational Puget Salish

This course will provide the student with advanced grammar. They will continue to learn more complex sentence structures, while increasing their vocabulary.
Vocabulary and content include song & dance; traditional teachings; traditional stories; colors; and syntax and grammar for third person agent. |

This course is a continuation of Advanced 1. Students will continue to learn more complex sentence structures, while increasing their vocabulary.
Vocabulary and content include song & dance; traditional teachings; traditional stories; and complex syntax and grammar. |
