Multilingual Institute Summer 2020
In response to several indigenous language conferences being cancelled this year due to social distancing, we organized an online conference called the Multilingual Institute Summer 2020. It was for 2-weeks, June 22nd through July 3rd, for 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The Multilingual Institute Summer 2020 focused on six languages. They were: mitsqanaqan, Samala, Western Mono, Nuu-wee-ya’, seliš, and Lushootseed. Each language represented had a team consisting of one lead and multiple team members. Each team focused on developing simple conversational skills and establishing a language nest in the homes of all of the participants. The team leads were responsible for mentoring the team members. Leads helped team members use domains in their home-based language nest and learn how to have a simple conversation.
